Urge Your Senators to
Sign onto the Franken/Kennedy/Whitehouse/Reed Letter in
Support of Strong Parity Regulations
After years of hard work by individuals with mental health
and substance use conditions, service providers, families
and advocates, Congress passed the Paul Wellstone and Pete
Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of
2008 on October 3, 2008. It is essential that
regulations are issued to avoid misinterpretation of the
law and to ensure access to critical mental health and
addiction services.
Senators Al Franken, Ted Kennedy, Sheldon Whitehouse and
Jack Reed are circulating a letter which will be sent to
the Secretaries of the three departments - Labor, Health
and Human Services (HHS) and Treasury - to issue
regulations by October 3, 2009 that reflect the clear
Congressional intent, as well as addressing other concerns
raised during the public comment period.
Ask your Senators to sign onto Sen. Franken's,
Kennedy’s, Whitehouse's and Reed’s letter by
5:00 pm on August 6th. Ask them to ensure parity and
equality are achieved for mental health and addiction
services.
